outfit of the day/dodgy doodles

Excuse the amateurish doodle but I thought I’d try something a bit different. It’s just a shame it doesn’t really look like me and I’m completely unable to draw leopard print:

b&lu

I love discovering new things and tonight, whilst doing the famous avoidance tactic of looking on the internet for dresses I can’t afford, I stumbled across b&lu whom I’ve never heard of before.

Two minutes and I’m now officially debating a diet of beans on toast for a couple of weeks so I can afford the following:

I’ve always been a bit hesitant about buying something that requires international shipping because I don’t want a shedload of extra charges that I had no idea about and I also don’t want to wait the best side of four weeks (I’ve only ever ordered like this from Threadless and it takes ages!).

Maybe I need to bite the bullet, get the tin opener ready and acquire some patience?

hello cupid

Happy Valentine’s Day to everyone, I hope you’ve all had a great one.

Unfortunately my beau is in bed with a sinus infection but we did make it out for an impromptu couple of hours last night sans alcohol as he’s on antibiotics and I had the first stage of my root canal done yesterday… eek!

Apologies for the lack of quality in the photos – they were taken on my iPhone and my Mr ended up chopping off half my head in his sinus haze(!) I literally got ready in twenty minutes which is beyond quick for me but I was pretty pleased with the results:

Dress: Yours
Sheer cardigan: New Look
Leggings: Dorothy Perkins
Shoes: New Look

And I also got to show off (again) one of my favourite ever buys from Lady Luck Rules; one of my favourite ever couples (Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin):

if you buy me this your life will be better

Despite adding a few things to the ‘blogging’ list this week, it’s been so busy at work I haven’t even had the chance to breathe. And when I have, it’s mostly been spent at the cinema or trying to fit in some much needed snooze. I have a couple of long train journeys this weekend and lots I want to write about, so hopefully next week will bring regular posts and some sort of routine!

For now, I’ll leave you with something else to add to your ‘NEED/WANT/MUST HAVE’ list:

asos curve

Oh asos, I fell asleep at my laptop on Thursday night patiently awaiting the launch of curve and hurried into work early so I could take a sneaky peek and ended up cursing you for the extra sleep I could have had.

Like many other people in the fatshion blogosphere, I was expecting to be bedazzled, love-struck and about £100 worse off but I’m finding it really hard to like most of what has already been put up there. I also refuse to believe in a month of Sundays that the model is anywhere near a size 20, which is a shame because I’d quite like to see how everything is pulled off with someone that is actually a size that these clothes have been made in.

After reading Gabi’s asos curve review earlier on this week I had already made up my mind that I was in love with the blue swing coat and white lace kimono dress but after looking on the website I’m not so sure: the quality of the coat for £65 really doesn’t look that great at all to me and I can hardly see any detail on the white lace kimono dress:

I’m also really not liking the ruched bust on the middle dress and despite wanting a few lace items for my wardrobe, can’t help but think that they’ve got it completely wrong with the shrug and massive flowers… maybe I’m wrong?

asos are apparently really good with basics and whilst I’ve never purchased anything from the website (being fat an’ all…) I think they’ve done a fairly good job of incorporating this into the curve collection. But to me, that’s all it seems to be: basic. There aren’t many colourful pieces and the everything is pretty neutral; something I was really quite surprised to see.

I know they’re going to be adding more and more items so hopefully we’ll see a bit more balance to the collection but until then, I wait with baited breath.

kitty's cosmic keyboard

Oh me, oh my. For years I have had a love affair with Lady Luck Rules OK but have always deemed myself too poor to buy anything from their website, even though it’s actually incredibly reasonable.

Wanting to update my jewellery collection, I decided to go on a bit of a splurge in November and ended up buying quite a few pieces and I can genuinely say, it was one of my better decisions of 2009. I’ve always gone for necklaces that are a bit longer and chunkier (I have quite a penchant for anything that resembles a pearl) but decided to go for something different:

The chain is a lot shorter than what I would usually go for but I just couldn’t resist. I was a bit worried it would get a bit ‘lost’ in my outfit and not really stand out but now I quite like the fact you have to look a bit closer to see what she’s getting up to:

A real-life cosmic kitty is now top of the list for my things to get in 2010.

v magazine

I know this is a bit old, but I still can’t get my head round V Magazine’s Size Issue (and the fact that I still need to buy it):

I really would be lying if I said I wasn’t a little bit in love with this. I know Karl Lagerfeld has been a MAJOR douchebag in the past but I’m willing to forgive and forget for a few minutes whilst I swoon all over this editorial:

LOVELOVELOVELOVELOVE.

hello.

Despite having had the idea (and even name) for this blog several months ago, for some reason or another I’ve had a bout of writer’s block that’s rendered me pretty much useless on the internet, full-stop.

So here I am. A twenty-something, size 20(ish), ‘fat’ girl that enjoys maybe one too many maltesers but also has a keen interest in creating a style that suits which doesn’t involve tents, beige and linen trousers. Utter those three items to me and away you’ll be sent. There’s no room in my wardrobe for drab, thanks. I’m big, not boring.

Having always been ‘the fat kid’, I have struggled my way through fashion considerably: from adopting baggy t-shirts in an attempt to hide myself, to fully embracing Clarissa Darling’s ‘anything goes’ approach – both resulting in many a faux pas.

Cheap, cheerful and chubby, I’m hoping this blog will be a chronicle of my struggles and successes in a world where fashion still fails to fully acknowledge fat.
